Perennial globetrotter Marcus Ryan is a gifted storyteller with a natural comic bent and has featured at so many festivals and clubs around the world it’s hard to know where home is these days. One thing's for sure, he’s right at home on stage. A laid back yet engaging stage presence, Marcus charms his audiences with tales from the road and a sharp wit. Not bad for a boy from Wonthaggi. Australian born but UK based for several years, Marcus kicked off his career in Melbourne honing his skills on the local circuit, with a runner up in Raw Comedy 2003 a finalist in Green Faces 2003 and an invitation to the Edinburgh Fringe the same year, followed by a selection for Comedy Zone 2004. In 2005 he appeared at major comedy festivals in Melbourne, Hobart, Montreal and again in Edinburgh where he was invited to attend the Vancouver comedy festival in a Rising Stars showcase. A familiar face in comedy clubs around UK, Europe & North America, Marcus returned to where it all began in 2010/’11 with back to back Melbourne International Comedy Festival shows ‘Home & Away’ and ‘Neighbours’ as well as mentoring and hosting 4 rising comics from Darwin in the Adelaide Fringe 2011. The 2nd half of 2011 saw the young vagabond embark on a solo tour across South East Asia making him the first ever comedian to perform in Siem Reap, Cambodia. Not to mention a 3hour show in Phnom Penh! This also included shows in China, Laos and Vietnam. The touring continued with a return to the USA & Canada playing at all the major cities in some of North America’s top clubs such as The Improv, Zanies, The Comic Strip, Absolute & Yuk Yuks to name a few. Marcus has written for and worked in radio and television and interviewed for various radio, TV & print. As well as stage acting and performed comedy professionally as an MC, support and headliner in Australia, USA, Canada, Belgium, Netherlands, Spain, Guatemala, Ireland and UK. 2012 has seen the return to the UK circuit including 5 nights at the Brighton Fringe festival, with added shows in Hungary, Austria, Slovakia, Belgium, the Netherlands, Serbia, Croatia. QUOTES: “He does everything a stand-up’s supposed to do, engaging easily with the audience. After just a few years as a comic, this genial chap absolutely looks and acts the part” Chortle, ‘07 ‘Faring much better was ironically the quietest comedian of the night, Marcus Ryan, who proved himself a bit of a charmer. With skill and deft timing he hit the mark with fine observations on his global travels and the perils of Facebook.’ “ **** ” Skinny.co.uk ‘09 ‘Marcus Ryan came with a well-honed act, good, solid, funny stuff delivered with a great deal of personality’ Edinburgh Evening News, April ‘09 ‘Had Australian comic Marcus Ryan been headlining, most people would still have been happy. His free-flowing delivery and exceptional take on standard stand-up material is worth catching at any time. One minute he is delivering accurate observations of Australian and British differences, the next depicting modern social networking tools as a dysfunctional family.’ The Stand, Edinburgh Evening News, June ‘09 PERFORMANCE CREDITS: Film & Stage: Radio: Television: Print:
