Russell Peters

Russell has performed in the UK since 1995, and is now a popular face at such top clubs as The Comedy Store and Jongleurs. He has appeared on Channel 4's Nights At The Empire, ITV'S Live From Jongleurs, BBC1s The Stand Up Show and Channel 5's Club Class, which he filmed on his previous visit here in February last year. He has also appeared in Police Academy - The Series, and has had two one hour specials on The Canadian Comedy Channel, Russell Peters is Off The Hook and The Russell Peters Show (which won a Gemini Award for Best Solo Comedy Show).

Russell is known for his 'cheeky brand of comedy, which is rude without being offensive; A definite 'lad' without alienating the female section of the audience. Russell draws on his Asian roots, and explores attitudes towards race in a way that is fresh, often surprising and is unafraid of hitting hard. While controversial at times, he avoids being senselessly derogatory, and combines his observations with a likeable stage persona and cheeky grin.

During 2001 Russell made his first appearance in the South African Comedy Festival, and presented a series of Network East:Late for BBC2. He also hosted the finals of Miss Nude UK for Granada, a role which he will be repeating throughout all the European versions of the same show in 2002. 2002 has also seen Russell present another series of Network East:Late, and he will be presenting Mechanoids for BBC Choice later in the year. He will also be returning to South Africa, to host an "ethnic show" in Durban, as well as appearing in comedy festivals in Brussels, Amsterdam. and for the 11th year running he will be performing at the Just for Laughs festival in Montreal.
