"inspired comic narrative...comedy which weaved around the audience's "The thinking man's comedian" – The List Richard Allen was born in Liverpool, in 1964. He did not write the "Skinhead" books, and has never played drums for Def Leppard. He is, however, a comic poet of true genius – think John Hegley meets John Cooper Clarke, gets drunk with Spike Milligan, and vomits through T. S. Eliot's letterbox – as well as an accomplished jokesmith. Having moved to London in 1987 Richard spent most of the 1990s honing his twin crafts of comic poetry and stand-up comedy through constant gigging at all the UK's top venues including the Comedy Store, Jongleurs, and Up the Creek, as well as promoting and compering his own West End comedy club. He won the Nuyorican Poets' slam - the first ever in the UK - at the ICA in 1994, and has become a firm favourite at festivals of all descriptions. He moved to Scotland in 1998 where he continued gigging as well as setting up, promoting and compering comedy clubs in Stirling, Dunfermline and Falkirk, and playing in an electro hip hop punk band. Richard returned to London in 2005 and, having taken a break from the comedy circuit for a while, he is now back, recharged and ready to wreak further havoc on the laughter glands of audiences everywhere with his unique brand of preposterously propulsive music hall hip hop.
