Persephone Lewin

After school Persephone was at RADA. The intervening years have been spent in a different career, not connected with theatre work.

Her first shot at stand-up was in 2003 at the Colchester Arts Centre to such extended applause that compere, Jack Milner, had difficulty getting the next act on stage. After two years performing on the London circuit she was starting to headline at the smaller clubs when she had a year and a half off for promotion, following publication of her book Bite to Byte.

Persephone is resident host of Crackpots, a monthly comedy show aboard the luxury Tereza Joanne on the edge of Docklands, first show will be in June 2007, www.crackpots-comedy.com

As well as straight stand-up, her sets encompass character comedy such as Madame Fifi in a story about a lifeboat. Most include her sidekick, the manipulative Peregrine the penguin, who plays a trumpet. Pere also helps Persephone play a tune on a hosepipe.

Pere persuades Madame Fifi, to do a striptease (could be viewed by children) alternating with trumpet playing and this set makes use of a gag dress.

'Mad as a box of springs. Hilarious.' Dave Sayers, President of the Essex University Comedy Club. October 2003.

'Persephone Lewin is delightful, great fun.' Brian Damage, Director of Pear-Shaped comedy club. 12.11.03

'Refreshingly original. I've never seen anything like it.' Brandi Borr, Director of Comedy Cabaret, the Intrepid Fox, Soho. 01.02.04

She was on the opening titles of the first competition heats on BBC 3, 2003, she came third in the first round of The Laughing Horse competition 2004 and made a pilot for Channel 4 with Russell Brand in 2005.

Articles published, written in light-hearted vein, have appeared mainly in Practical Boat Owner, Britain's biggest selling yachting magazine. Her book Bite to Byte was published in 2006
