Mel Barnes

Mel was born in Bristol in 1971 and from the age of 5 was brought up in New Zealand which has unfortunately given her a slightly mixed accent and personality.
After returning to England in 1989 she studied towards a qualification in the Performing Arts and later took up comedy in London for two years where she was a finalist in the Hackney Empire New Act of the Year Award. After a further two years on the circuit, Mel now works as a lawyer in London and still dabbles in comedy when the mood takes her. She has performed spots around the country for Mirth Control and amongst others has played clubs such as Bound and Gagged, Downstairs at the Kings Head, Comedy Cavern, East Dulwich Tavern, Bearcat Club and the Comedy Store.

In 2004 Mel was a finalist for the Leicester Mercury Comedian of the Year Award and in 2005 was a semi-finalist in the Funny Woman of the Year Award.

Mel is currently working on her show ?Churchill Stole my Soundbite? for the 2007 Edinburgh Fringe, a show of observational comedy based in 1944 that all fans of guns, Panzers and wind-up gramophones should enjoy.
