Brian Aylward

In November 2005, based on a bet, Newfoundland native Brian Aylward stepped on stage for the first time at a rowdy expatriate bar in Seoul, South Korea.

In 2006, after only a handful of open mics under his belt, Brian moved back to Canada and spent a year spewing jokes all over Toronto's famed comedy scene.

Since then, Aylward has already established himself as an international stand-up act. With his commanding stage presence, Brian delivers a brand of comedy that isn't necessarily angry, as he mocks aspects of society, culture and himself, while somehow maintaining an undeniable likeability.

During a second stint in Seoul, between 2007-2010, Brian pioneered the English stand-up comedy scene in South Korea, where he worked as an EFL Kindergarten teacher during that time. He has performed hundreds of shows across Asia, in places such as Vietnam, Singapore, Malaysia, India, China, South Korea, Cambodia, Hong Kong and Indonesia. Brian founded " Stand Up Seoul " in March 2009. While living in Seoul, Brian was a humour columnist for " Groove Korea."
( * Stand Up Seoul now regularly tours all over South Korea and imports top international comedy acts each year. )

Returning to Canada in 2010, Aylward quickly garnered national attention, with countless memorable live performances. He won numerous comedy competitions , including 2011 " Halifax's Funniest" ( Funny Factor ) and regional winner at the 2011 " Yuk Yuks Great Canadian Laugh-Off." Brian was also a Top 8 Finalist at 2011 XM Radio's " Canada's Next Top Comic. "

Brian has been on tour twice, with Canadian comedy superstar, Nikki Payne. ( Nova Scotia / New Brunswick in 2011 and Newfoundland in 2012 )

Aylward's comedy festival credits include the Hong Kong International Festival, St. John's Comedy Festival, Hubcap Comedy Festival and the 2012 Halifax Comedy Fest. His stand-up has been featured on CBC television, with televised festival appearances from both St. John's and Halifax. Brian has also appeared on CBC Radio's " Laugh Out Loud " and XM Radio's " Laugh Attack. "

In July 2012, Brian completed a very successful stand-up tour throughout South Asia. He toured five countries and performed 26 shows in 30 days. ( Singapore, Malaysia, Cambodia, South Korea and Indonesia )

In August 2012, Brian signed with Funny Business Inc. ( Canada )

In November 2012, Brian is debuting his one hour, one-man show, " Me, Myself and Indonesia " at the first ever Jakarta International Fringe Festival.

In very recent news, Brian has been named co-host of a Newfoundland-centric, travel television show, " Syllables: Our People, Our Story," airing this fall on NTV. ( Canada )
