Stewart Nicol

15 YEARS INTO A CAREER AS A PRO MUSICIAN STEWART NICOL FOUND HIMSELF FALLING INTO STAND-UP COMEDY AS PART OF HIS BILLY CONNOLLY LOOK-ALIKE WORK! HE NOW PERFORMS AS THE BIG YIN REGULARLY, DOING SPOTS AT CLUBS, FESTIVALS AND CORPORATE EVENTS THROUGHOUT THE UK AND EUROPE.

Stewart turned professional in 1985 on Drums, Keyboards and Vocals touring the UK/Europe until 1990. He was a Bandleader providing backing for visiting artists such as Chuck Berry, The 4 Tops and The Temptations from 1991-1997. The similarities between Stewart’s and Mr Connolly’s experiences both on the road and in heavy industry give Stewart a wealth of material in the same vein as Billy’s.

BILLY CONNEARLY

Stewart first appeared as a Billy Connolly Look-Alike in 1999. A few friends had been telling him he should be on Stars In Their Eyes as Billy. Using his entertainment connections he called an agency in London who had been asked for a Billy Connolly that week. One week later he did the AOL Convention at the Radisson Heathrow, 2 weeks later he was flown up to Glasgow to re-launch Heinz Sponge Puddings in a tin! Since then he has worked to perfect a live act and now does a full Tribute to Billy lasting up to 2 hours with jokes, stories, songs, banjo and much laughter!

LIVE WORK

In 2010 Stewart MC’d the ROX Music and Arts Charity’s 20th Anniversary festival before an audience of 38,000 and was re-booked for 2011. He is now a Director and Trustee of the Charity. Stewart did a 2 week residency in Jongleurs, Portsmouth at Christmas 2011. A highlight of 2012 was appearing in concert at the Centenary Centre, Peel, Isle of Man.
The traditionally Scottish period from New Year’s Eve through Burn’s Night sees Stewart at his busiest. This year he played Barrow In Furness, Cannock, Halesowen, Brighton, Portsmouth, Southend, Slough, Reading and London.
