Stewart Lee

These days, Stewart Lee is best known as the co-writer and director of London's groundbreaking, critically acclaimed London theatre hit, Jerry Springer - The Opera, but comedy fans have long known him as a staple of the UK stand-up scene. One of the most respected figures of British comedy, Stewart has consistently been a cutting edge talent, whether working as a writer, comedian or director, and was recently voted 'Britain's Tenth Funniest Man' by the UK edition of Esquire magazine.

In the early 90's, Stewart co-scripted the original appearances of Steve Coogan's Alan Partridge character for BBC Radio, and the show he performed with Richard Herring, The Fist Of Fun, transferred to BBC television in 1999.

He directed Simon Munnery's Golden Rose Of Montreux Nominated series Attention Scum in 2000, and has worked as a script editor on TV shows by the comedians Harry Hill and Al Murray, The Pub Landlord.

Stewart's first novel, The Perfect Fool, concerned Native American clowning traditions and was published to critical acclaim in 2001. He writes regularly about rock, folk and jazz for The London Sunday Times and presents radio shows on London's community arts radio station, Resonance 104.4 fm.
