Simon McKinney

After arriving in the UK a year and four months ago, Simon has rapidly risen to become a regular performer in Edinburgh, Glasgow and elsewhere around the United Kingdom.

He has performed several times at Jongleurs Comedy bar and made an appearance at the Manchester Comedy Store, as well as keeping up a strong presence at Scotland's own Stand comedy clubs, both as a frequent headline act and compere.

His act has been described as 'relaxed, abstract and observational' (Edinburgh Evening News) and 'Definitely one to catch' (The List magazine) with a set full of satire, impersonations and musical parody.

Since leaving a career in television in New Zealand as the co-host of a popular Saturday morning kid's show (Hamish the Fish to all young kiwis), as well as having explored the stand-up circuit for the last six years on and off TV with four appearances on NZ's number 1 stand-up programme, Pulp Comedy, Simon has taken to the UK and its people like a fish to water (ahem), exploring the differences and similarities in accents and attitudes alike.

Currently producing a stop-motion animation project for a high-profile music band, he has been the subject of a documentary for Glasgow University and cast as the lead role in a 16mm short film.

He participated in last year's Edinburgh festival as a resident comedian for the show Moving Conversations in which high profile comedians talked about their favourite films, and this year will perform in his own show When Hedges Attack as well as several other appearances throughout the festival including headlining Live At The Hive, also with Perrier Best Newcomer Garth Cruickshank.
