Jimmy O’Neill

I started doing stand up in April 2006 and have done 150 + gigs since then, primarily in the North West and several successful outings at Shoreditch comedy club plus other venues in London in 2008, building up something of a cult following & being instantly recognizable via my trademark flat cap.

My comedy style is very much quickfire gag based and I could be considered relatively “old school” in as much as I write all my own jokes and do not follow the stereotypical observational routines that almost every comedian on the circuit now subscribes to. However, I’ve found that this goes down well with audiences who are used to hearing the same supposedly alternative routines week in, week out. So successful, in fact, that I’ve achieved the following :

Beaten “the frog” at the Frog & Bucket Manchester
Won “King Gong” at the Comedy Store Manchester
Finalist in Magner’s “Pub Comedian of the year”

Supported Bernard Manning in Stockport shortly before his death.

Aside from standup, I’ve had quite a lot of exposure through other mediums.

I have appeared on comedy current affairs shows on Radio Manchester and TV work is something I enjoyed & would like to pursue in future, either stand up or “personality” related. As well as extensive extra work in productions like “Sunshine” starring Steve Coogan & “Craig cash” starring I took part in Living TV’s reality show “Living with Kimberley Stewart” ( Rod Stewart’s daughter ) in 2007 where I came third, was onscreen from October to December & ended up in the national press on a number of occasions.

Finally, I have numerous comedy sketches / videos – all self written / acted / produced – on my own channel on Youtube which have gone down extremely well with the public. My section “The Wigan Joker” (http://www.youtube.com/user/thewiganjoker) averages 500 hits per day whilst one of my best known sketches has had more than 20,000 hits. I am also currently working with a Wigan based professional video producer ( who’s filmed the likes of Alice cooper & florence and the machine ) on a short film starring one of my best loved characters Ronnie Foster – again, all my own work.
