Jez Rose

One man.? Two hands.? Eight personalities.? And the only comedy act of its kind.

From an interview by Lead Woodward.

Jez Rose spent over 6 months writing and developing the truly unique performance of puppetry and comedy, now known as Jez Rose & Company.? By the end of the show, it?s hard to imagine how it didn?t take 12 months.
?
He had several other jobs before he began talking to himself including working in the NHS and as a track attendant at a dog race track, until he says, the day he caught his shoelace in the electric hare.? According to Jez, this is by far the best job he?s ever had:? ?Not only do I meet some amazing people but I travel all over this beautiful planet and see some amazing things.? Sometimes companies give me free stuff to promote them; useful examples are a car (which people love to sit in and then rush out to buy the very next day; take note Mr Aston Martin!); a waffle maker (I wasn?t quite as excited about that) and of course, until the neighbours complained, that Learjet.?
?
From as young as he can remember, Jez played around with voices bringing inanimate objects to life (in the process apparently breaking a toaster and a vase).? Never finding ventriloquists particularly entertaining or appealing, his first connection with engaging puppetry is thanks to his Father?s involvement with the Jim Henson Company. Jez?s Father moulded various puppets for large productions such as ?The Muppets Take Manhattan? and would describe to Jez how they were made, only for him to then see them on television, seemingly alive and a far cry from the lumps of foam his Father had just portrayed.? ?I don?t use the word ventriloquist because it?s too prescriptive ? not only does it conjure up the wrong images for what I do but my performance is about much more than me simply providing voices for the characters?, says Jez, and rightly so.? It is quite apt then that Jez Rose & Company shares all of the universal appeal and attraction of the Henson creations, but with a very distinctive twist.? His performance is an eclectic yet appealing blend of puppetry, comedy, visual and special effects, sound effects and even a few theatre tricks.? The silent sequence set to music between Jez and his dragon, Boo, is sensational.?
?
His entertainment career first took him in other directions, as a mind reader and using psychology in training, where he developed his passion for pushing the limits of what was perceived possible.? When he started to play with puppet characters he knew he wanted to do it in a way that had never been done before.? The unique fusion of theatrical elements makes for a creative, surprising and incredibly entertaining experience, but it is the relationship which Jez develops with his audiences, that is most remarkable.

Jez Rose & Company is an unforgettable show with jaw-dropping routines and characters, surprising special effects and even the English national anthem, held together with the high-energy and comedy Jez is renowned for but now without moving his lips.

His television and radio credits include 'Jez Rose: All in Your Mind' for ITV1; 'Scambusters' for BBC1; BBC Radio 4; 'The Mysti Show' for BBC1; 'The Big Breakfast' for Channel 4 and Melinda Messenger's 'Loose Lips' for Living TV.? His corporate clients reads like a who's who of the business world including Microsoft, HBOS, Intercontinental Hotels Group, KPMG and Coca Cola.??Frequently appearing in the corporate sector and at exhibitions to draw in crowds (where in late 2005 a complaint was brought against him by the managers of one of the UK's largest exhibition venues as the interest Jez was generating was causing the aisles to be blocked!),?his creativity and ability to push the boundaries of puppet entertainment extends to the interactive technology he calls ?Puppetactive?, designed for presentations and awards ceremonies (because many elements and even the characters can be tailored to the event), this is a mixture of live and on-screen action where characters interact with both Jez and members of the audience in real-time.

Following his success working for the Walt Disney Company training excellence in customer service, Jez offers his knowledge of this specialist area in a highly interactive and engaging 50 minute presentation aptly titled: ?Have A Crap Day?.? Some of the World?s largest businesses have consulted Jez on the art of effective customer service including Xerox, Lloyds TSB and Pfizer.??Designed for the British Corporate audience, Jez uses unique and only workable tools and techniques combined with high energy and humour to empower your workforce.? Puppet technology enhances the presentation and roleplays with members of your team being turned into living puppets ? this is one training seminar they won?t forget and after all, isn?t that the objective?

Now, having performed in 20 countries, on cruise ships including the Queen Mary 2, at royal command performances and with numerous appearances on television and radio including his own show for ITV1, Jez has gained respect for his dynamic and creative style which creates a truly unforgettable performance.? He has performed for and worked alongside the likes of Jackie Chan, Steve Coogan, The Darkness, Jonathan Ross, Sir Elton John, Melanie Sykes, David Gilmour and Madonna but, despite this celebrity involvement, I wanted to know what the response to his act was at a more public level.? ?People love to see something new and different.? My audiences share the excitement of the elements I bring together and see a part of themselves in each of the characters.? The response really is great to see.????? Presumably the modest Jez is referring to the overflow of glowing testimonials and audience feedback.
?
Jez lives with his partner and dog (they?re both real, not puppets) in Buckinghamshire.? He is dedicated to making the world a better place through laughter and his fundraising foundation raises money for 6 charities each year, sharing his simple motto for life: Live, Love, Laugh.
