For Jamie's first stand-up gig he went under the name of "Jesus Presley". It wasn't a total disaster but four gigs later he realised that the limited humorous potential in being called Jesus Presley was far outweighed by the restrictions it placed on his material; i.e. everyone expected his jokes to be about burgers, God or tight white jumpsuits. Thus he became "Jamie Mathieson", a name chosen for its catchiness and the fact that he found it easy to remember, having been called it since he was born. Since then his career has improved dramatically. Jamie is now performing at all the major stand up clubs and universities around the country, he is also increasingly being asked to appear at corporate events and private parties. His comedic skills combined with his art school training has led to plenty of interest in his animations, including winning the runners up prize in the MTV World Aids Day Animation Competition and Computer Arts Magazine commissioning him to write a tutorial on his web animations. Examples of these can be seen on his website www.jamiemathieson.co.uk However, it is perhaps his writing skills that Jamie is most well known for. With an extremely varied and contrasting CV, Jamie has written for the likes of ITV's "Catchphrase" and "Family Fortunes", BBC's "Velvet Soup" and "Revolver" and was commissioned to contribute to a pilot sketch show. Jamie was also one of the core team of writers with The Comedy Factory, which was a group of writers brought together by Carlton and KDR Productions to develop and script various ideas for television. Projects already completed include a sketch show, a quiz show, a cabaret show, a sitcom and a very tongue-in-cheek documentary. Jamie also writes regular comedy articles for Splash Communications, which are then distributed and printed by various publications around the country, including the Daily Record and Jongleurs Comedy Clubs' Newsletter. Jamie
is currently developing a six-part drama for a major independent TV company.
