Gareth Urwin

"Gareth Urwin was quick to get the crowd roaring with laughter, with one lady close to me laughing hysterically  literally through 99% of his act, with even the odd word busting her in to another fit of laughter. It was quite incredible!" -  thenationalstudent.com

Gareth Urwin is a former CityLife Comedian of The Year Finalist who has always had a pathological desire to be viewed and judged by members of the public. In early 2007 this rejected Stockport County FC trialist set out on his comedic journey when he joined the improvisation troupe “Comedy Republik", performing improvised comedy sketches on various stages across the country. By 2008, having honed excellent comedic timing coupled with an affable stage persona, the next logical step seemed to be a move towards stand-up.

3 Years and 400 odd gigs later Gareth is resident compere at  abbcom comedy nights ( www.abbcom.co.uk ), Sheffield University Halls and former resident MC of Bradford Funhouse and VLS Comedy in Saltaire. Gareth also performed at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival in 2008 as one part of the well received "Yorkshire Pudding Paradigm" and was regular writer and co-host of the comedy radio show “Shatners Bassoon in the Afternoon” (Sheffield Live : 2007-2009).

Competitions and Awards:
- Winner of Hull Comedy Festival Best Newcomer 2009.

- Finalist in Jongleurs New Act Competition 2009.

- Finalist CityLife Comedian of the Year 2008.

"We got Gareth back to Giggle Aid II because he did an excellent set last year in front of 220 people and I know he's also a great compere. We had a venue for Giggle Aid II full of 450 people and Gareth did a fantastic job warming them up for our main acts (including Dave Spikey) and keeping the night rocking along all night. I'd highly recommend Gareth as a compere for audiences of all sizes” – Max Newton, British Red Cross
