Style: On stage, Col Howarth is naturally warm, engaging and enthusiastic, which endears audiences to his distinct style of observational comedy, in which he mixes short stories with absurd scenarios, peppered with crafty one-liners.
Having recently reached the big 40 much of Col’s material is about his coming to terms with ageing, parenthood, dwindling aspirations and the absurdity of media representations of the person he is supposed to be. As one eye wistfully remembers a rose-tinted past the other looks with dread at a future that will inevitably involve piles.
'The homely and affable comedy of Col Howarth...an exuberant guy who delivers his musings with the biggest smile...' Piste-Off Comedy, Cardiff
'Already establishing himself as a regular on the South Wales comedy circuit Col is one to watch.' Giggle Geyser, Swansea
'...a really wonderful MC with a real like-ability on stage and a very warm and engaging manner. Excellent!' Hannah Silvester, The Roadhouse, Birmingham.
'...Cardiff-based comic who’s 10 minutes were filled with quick stories, sharp lines and an enthusiasm that saw even jokes on the lower rung of his set land. We’d like to see more of Howarth’s material, he’s already built up a great stage approach; plenty of movement and is skilled at knowing where to move on quickly or build it up when it doesn't quite stick.' Chaplins Moustache Comedy, Bristol.
'Howarth was energetic, clever and fun, with perfect comic timing. He told hysterical stories that had the audience smiling from start to end.' Wing It Productions, Bideford.
Col has gigged all over England and Wales. Most spots have been 10s but he is moving into paid 15s and 20s and looking for more opportunities at pro-nights. He is constantly writing and is currently working on a longer 30-40 minute set. He also enjoys MCing. Highlights include:
