Alex Maple

Alex was born in Eastbourne in 1981 to a Kenyan Asian and a white man. Brought up as a fairly moderate Muslim his skin colour, English surname and early years in private education ensured his ethnicity was kept largely hidden. In his prolonged student days Alex flirted with comedy, penning material for BBC and commercial radio stations as well as writing and performing sketches. His brief marriage to broadcast journalism ended in divorce following bored freelance stints reading radio news bulletins and writing magazine articles. He decided to return to his secret love in the guise of a stand up and now gigs all over the country using intelligent, cerebral and witty one-liners, jokes, word play and acute observations.

In the last few months, Alex has won two ’funhouse’ gong shows in the Midlands and is through to the semi finals of the 2008 Laughing Horse New Act of the Year competition.

He is also available for acting and voiceover work.

Alex will make his debut at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival later this year with 17 year old Indian stand up sensation, Ahir Shah.
